Growing Virginia's Adventure Ed Programs
The Virginia Adventure Education Conference (VAAEC) is an annual, one-day event that provides accessible and affordable networking and professional development for students and professionals in the outdoor leadership field. The VAAEC includes an opening "playnote" session and keynote address, multiple workshop sessions, lunch, giveaways, and outdoor adventure games.
During the conference, industry professionals and students present on topics that cover industry best practices, adaptive involvement strategies, risk management techniques, emerging industry gear and technology, the future of adventure education and tourism in Virginia, and much more.
Conference attendance continues to grow each year. Students from dozens of Virginia colleges and universities have been represented. Past participating colleges and universities include Brevard College (NC), Bridgewater College, Eastern Mennonite University, Ferrum College, George Mason University, Hollins University, James Madison University, Liberty University, Longwood University, Lord Fairfax Community College, Old Dominion University, Radford University, Roanoke College, Shenandoah University, University of Lynchburg, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Tech, Virginia Western Community College, Washington and Lee University, and William & Mary.
